Friends of the Bala Cynwyd Farmer's Market!

We want to reach out to you - our loyal customers and neighbors - and ask you to help spread the word:
The Bala Cywnyd Farmers Market will be taking a hiatus for the 2016 season
with the hopes of returning to another new location for the 2017 season.

We know this is so disappointing to our fellow fans of local food and farms, but
we firmly believe in silver linings, glasses half full and the sunny side of the street.
We will miss shopping at our local market, yet we are excited to support our township commissioners and Farm to City as they look for a new location for 2017.  Last year’s location--The Barmouth Trailhead-- is a lovely, scenic spot, but we found the market works best when it is situated in a highly visible location with lots of foot, bike and car traffic.

A Farmers Market is a Community Effort

We thank you a million times over for your help over the last 5 years. (A special shout out goes to Gabe Spector who generously let us use the GSB parking lot for 4 of those 5.) Your comments, your questions, your “hellos” and kind words confirmed for us that a farmers market is a community effort, so please keep the support coming.

Where do I find other Local Produce?

And until we have a market back in our neighborhood, you can find the farmers and vendors you love by visiting other local farmers markets:
  • Bryn Mawr Market, Saturdays 9am-1pm, in the Parking Lot at the intersection of Lancaster & Bryn Mawr Avenue. You’ll be able to shop at Frecon Farms, Blue Mountain Vineyards, Davidson Exotics, and Sarah Bakes at the Bryn Mawr Market, open year round.
  • Overbrook Market, Saturdays 9am-1pm, Lancaster & City Avenue at the Overbrook Presbyterian Church, opens in mid-May.
  • For full info:  visit www.farmtocity.org orhttp://thefoodtrust.org/farmers-markets

How Can You Help Now?

Let the township and your township commissioner know that you want the market back in Bala. Feel free to send your ideas for new locations, recognizing that existing zoning laws continue to make it difficult to find a spot in our neighborhood. If you have a spare parking lot, let us know!

For this Summer, do this:

  • Robert and Amy from Down to Earth Harvest will have a Thursday Bala pickup at St. Asaph's Church for their CSA. For more information, visit their website:http://downtoearthharvest.com
  • Dwain Livengood of Livengood Family Farm is very interested in establishing a Bala Buying-Club, where he would come to Bala once a week  and drop off pre-orders at a designated host house or location. If you’d like to pursue this opportunity, then please contact Jon at [email protected]. Jon is waiting to hear if there is interest in this idea. In the meantime, Dwain sets up a farm stand at the Clark Park Farmers Market every Saturday, 10am-2pm, at 43rd Street and Baltimore Avenue.
